Durfee softball falls in season finale against Dedham

The spring high school season is in its final stages of the regular season for Fall River area teams.

Here's a look at scores and highlights from the weekend action:

LOCATION: Notre Dame Academy in Hingham

DATE: May 28

RECORD: Diman, 6-0-1

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals girls outdoor track and field team had great performances at the Division IV State Championship Meet on Friday and Sunday. Grace Flattery was crowned the Division IV state champion for Diman, winning the high jump at 5'2". Kaitlyn Nickelson finished fifth overall in the high jump (5'0"). Inez Medeiros compiled three top 10 finishes — eighth place in the 400m (1:01.5), ninth in the 100 (13.08), and 10th in the 200 (26.84). Emma Foley had solid finishes in her three individual events — 13th in long jump (16'1"), 15th in the 100 hurdles (17.68) and 18th in triple jump (32'1"). The 4x400 relay team of Angela Njoroge, Isabelle Chekares, Grace Flattery, and Eden McCausland set a new school record (4:36.2), finishing 15th overall.

NEXT UP: The Bengals will compete at the MIAA Meet of Champions on Saturday.

LOCATION: Notre Dame Academy in Hingham

DATE: May 28

RECORD: Diman, 4-3

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals had some solid performances at the Division IV State Championship Meet on Friday and Sunday. Cashton Richard was ninth for Diman in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.41. Nathan Nascimento placed 12th in 100 with a time of 11.51, he also was 20th overall in 200m with a time of 23.84. Phoenix Bennett finished 21st in the 200 with a season-best time of 23.94. The 4x400 relay team of AJ Gesner, Ethan Cabral, Cashton Richard and Nathan Nascimento ran a season-beat time of 3:44 to finish 20th. "Excellent effort to finish the season strong with some of our best times of the year," Bengals head coach Tom Librera said.

NEXT UP: The Bengals will compete at the Decathlon on June 5.

LOCATION: Taunton

DATE: May 27

RECORD: Durfee, 9-11

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers scored a run in the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday to pull out a win over Barnstable in a suspended game from Wednesday.

NEXT UP: Durfee awaits the tournament seeding this week.

LOCATION: Fall River

DATE: May 27

RECORD: Durfee, 14-6

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers dropped the first of two on Saturday against Dedham at home. Niyah Boone and Rachael Silva each had a pair of hits for Durfee. Emily Curran had a double and scored a run. Sophia Alfonso drove in the lone run.
