FHSAA track and field state finals: Top football prospects to watch

PALM BEACH GARDENS — Amaree Williams is caught between two worlds.

Or at least two practices.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Benjamin School sophomore is having the breakout spring that was expected. Michigan, USC, Penn State and Iowa are among the schools that offered the edge rusher/tight end.

Williams also a key member of Benjamin's track team which is looking to repeat as state champions. He runs both the 100 meters and the 4x100 relay and posted the third-best high jump mark in Class 1A at the regional meet.

"I've been going straight from track to football (practice)," said Williams, the son of former NFL running back Moe Williams. "I've been helping out the younger guys because we've got states coming up. Just staying loose, staying warm. I'll be out there mentoring, but I can't be out there in full pads."

Of course, that doesn't mean Williams is content to just watch football practice. He jumps in when he can, even if that means getting into a game of sand volleyball — played with a medicine ball — while wearing his school uniform shorts. He's also tries to go a little harder when college coaches stop by.

"If there's schools that come through to look me, I'll try to do a little something," Williams said. "Not in pads. It's a little weird. I want to. Track season is fun and all, but when it's football season ..."

Williams certainly isn't the only football players who is pulling double duty this spring. Here are some of the top recruits to watch during the FHSAA Track & Field State Championships this week.

Event: Shot put

Cronk had 66 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and eight sacks in 2022. He has a handful of Division I offers, including Pitt.

Event: 4x100 relay

Pringle has seen his recruitment take off the spring, including his first Power 5 offer from West Virginia. He had 622 yards and six touchdowns in 2022.

Events: 200 meters, 4x100 relay

Stokes (No. 100 USA Today Florida Network top 100) is committed to UCF. He had 372 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2022.

Events: 100 meters, 200 meters,

Thompson had 17 tackles and two interceptions in 2022. His offers include Maryland, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State and UCF.

Event: 110 meters, 4x100 relay

White is one of the top prospects in the class of 2026, with offers from Alabama, Auburn Florida State, N.C. State and others. He scored six touchdowns and broke up five passes in 2022.

Abrams (No. 50 USA Today Florida Network top 100) is committed to Florida State. He caught 37 passes for 429 yards and five touchdowns.

Bennett already has offers from Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Penn State, Texas A&M and others. Bennett scored two touchdowns in 2022.

Event: Shot put, discus

Blount is one of the nation's top recruits in the class of 2025. His offers include Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Since January, Brown has emerged as one of the top recruits in the class of 2025. His offers include Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Oklahoma, Tennessee and USC.

Buie signed with Iowa in December. He caught 47 passes for 735 yards and six touchdowns in 2022.

Event: Long jump

Clardy has a handful of offers, including Kentucky and Mississippi State. He recorded 55 tackles and broke up eight passes in 2022.

Davis signed with Michigan State in February. He had 46 tackles, 13 passes defended and eight interceptions in 2022.

Fleming has offers from Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Missouri and UCF. He had almost 500 yards of total offense and scored five touchdowns in 2022.

Event: Triple jump

Gaskin (No. 35 USA Today Florida Network top 100) threw 18 touchdowns passes and rushed for five scored in 2022. His offers include Alabama, Florida State, Michigan State and Tennessee.

Event: Shot put

Guarnera (No. 84 USA Today Florida Network top 100) is committed to Michigan.

Johnson, who saw his recruiting take off during track season last spring, signed with Miami in December.

Louis has several offers, including Louisville and Nebraska. He had 800 yards and six touchdowns in 2022.

Lucas has offers from Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky and many other Power 5 programs.

Mincey (No. 21 USA Today Florida Network top 100) has offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma and others. He had 30 tackles, eight passes defended and two interceptions in 2022.

Event: 100 meters

Pickett is one of the nation's top recruits in the class of 2025. His offers include Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, LSU and Ohio State.

Events: 100 meters, 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay

Sanders holds offers from Miami, Texas A&M, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Event: Javelin

Scott has a handful of offers, including Ole Miss. He caught 41 passes for 951 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022.

Event: 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay

Tabb rushed for 2,407 yards and 24 touchdowns and added two receiving touchdowns in 2022. His offers include N.C. State, Stanford, Syracuse, Utah and Wake Forest.

Burroughs is one of the top freshman receivers in the country. He already has offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan and others.

Butler verbally committed to Cincinnati earlier this month. He had 17 tackles for loss, 17 quarterback hurries and four sacks in 2022.

Carter signed with Oklahoma in December. Lewis had 108 tackles, four sacks and two interceptions in 2022.

Event: Javelin

Carter racked up 110 tackles, six tackles for loss and six forced fumbles in 2022. His offers include Louisville, Nebraska and Pitt.

Danzy (No. 32 USA Today Florida Network top 100) has offer from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, South Carolina and others.

Grimsley (No. 83 USA Today Florida Network top 100) has several Power 5 offers, including Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee.

Hawkins signed with Ohio State in December. He had 55 tackles, four passes defended and an interception in 2022.

Jaffe verbally committed to Wake Forest in January. He finished the 2022 season with 123 tackles and two interceptions.

Jefferson has been offered by Rutgers, West Virginia, FAU, USF and others. He had 19 tackles, four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in 2022.

Johnson signed with Boston College in December. He had 1,151 yards of total offense, scored nine touchdowns and intercepted three passes in 2022.

Levy (No. 67 USA Today Florida Network top 100) has been offered by Florida, Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss and others. Levy had 304 receiving yard and two touchdowns in 2022.

Modest rushed for 439 yards and six touchdowns in 2022. He has offers from Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss, Pitt, Syracuse and others.

Redmon has seen his recruiting take off in the past week. West Virginia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota and UCF are among the schools to offer.

Thomas is one of the top recruits in the nation in the class of 2025. His offers include Florida, Florida State, Miami, Oregon and South Carolina.

Event: High jump

Balogoun-Ali had 41 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks in 2022. He picked up his first Power 5 offer (Kentucky) in April.

Events: 100 meters, 4x100 relay

Bowens (No. 45 USA Today Florida Network top 100) is one of the top running backs in the class of 2024. He is verbally committed to Florida.

Bronaugh picked up his first Power 5 offer (Minnesota) on May 10. He rushed for 1,277 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2022.

Brown already has more than a dozen offers, including Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Burney, who verbally committed to Wake Forest in March, had 35 tackles and five tackles for loss in 2022.

Cosby-Mosley's offers include Appalachian State, Pitt, South Florida, Wake Forest and Western Kentucky.

Gilmore, one of the nation's top receivers in the class of 2025, has offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan and others.

Jones (No. 31 USA Today Florida Network top 100) had 58 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 2022. His offers include Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Miami.

Mays, an all-American, signed with Wake Forest in December. Mays had 503 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022.

Henry, an all-American, signed with Clemson in December. He caught 65 passes for 1,253 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2022.

Patterson has several Power 5 offers and has scheduled official visits to Boston College, Cincinnati, Rutgers and Stanford.

Smith is the No. 1 player on the USA Today Florida Network top 100. He is verbally committed to Ohio State.

Williams has emerged as one of the top recruits in the class of 2025. He recorded 15 sacks, 14 tackles for loss and scored four receiving touchdowns in 2022.

Woulard caught 41 passes for 395 yards and three touchdowns at Vero Beach in 2022. He has offers from Pitt and West Virginia.
