Samsung has invited the world to #AmpYourAwesome at an upcoming event in India on March 16, which will be the launch of (at least) two new Galaxy A series phones. It's our understanding that the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 will be announced at this event.
There have been a number of leaks regarding the two phones, as well as clues in this latest teaser, which you can find on the Samsung India Twitter account. It also sent out a press note to select publications announcing the launch of two new Galaxy A devices, and Samsung India even had a registration page up for the new mid-rangers earlier in the week. However, this appears to have been removed at the time of writing.
Given that the Galaxy A53 was launched in India on March 17, 2022, the timing and location would appear to be a repeat of last year. There's little doubt at this point that the upcoming event will be the Galaxy A54 release date.
The Samsung event will take place on March 16 at 12 PM IST (2:30 AM ET), so we won't have to wait long to find out.
We can safely say that the Galaxy A54 won't be available to buy on the release date.
Samsung has a tried and tested approach to new device launches, which is to open up a pre-order period on the day the new phone is announced. This will typically last around two weeks and end on the day the device goes on general sale. This was the approach with the Galaxy S23 series last month and with the Galaxy A53 this time last year.
The Galaxy A53 was announced on Thursday, March 17, 2022, and then went on full sale in the US on Friday, April 1, although it was available through some carriers a day earlier on March 31. This mid-week launch and then end-of-week release two weeks later is very typical of how Samsung operates, so we expect the same of the Galaxy A54.
With the phone announcement expected on March 16, that would make the most likely date for the general sale to be Friday, March 31. Whether certain carriers in the US will get early access again or if the Indian market will get a slightly earlier release remains to be seen.
The pre-order period often brings extra deals on the devices, such as a free pair of Galaxy Buds. That's something to look out for if you’re sure that you want the device from the outset.
The Galaxy A Series is Samsung's phone for the masses, so you can be sure they will get a global release.
The phone is launching in India, North American markets will undoubtedly be included, and we even have Galaxy A54 price leaks for Europe. The Galaxy A53 was available in all markets where Samsung had a presence, and we expect the same for the Galaxy A54.
We don't have any indications that the sale of the Galaxy A54 will be staggered across different markets, and it wasn't the case with its predecessor either. So we would be surprised if the Galaxy A54 wasn't available globally by the end of the month.
We don't yet know the price of the Samsung Galaxy A54 in the US, but given that the Galaxy S23 line remained at the same prices as their predecessors, it would make sense that the Galaxy A54 followed suit. That would mean a cost of around $450. The leak mentioned in the section above suggests there may be a slight price increase awaiting EU buyers.
You’d hope it would have a degree of waterproofing, given that the teaser shows what we believe to be the Galaxy A54 underwater. The leaked Galaxy A54 spec sheet lists the phone as having an IP67 rating, which isn't the highest possible rating but would mean the phone is water-resistant.
As far as we know, the Galaxy A54 won't have wireless charging. The Galaxy A53 didn't have this feature, and we’ve heard nothing to suggest this will change.
