Defending champion: Detroit Renaissance

Detroit Renaissance: Once again, Renaissance is loaded with talent. Despite graduating arguably the best sprinter in state history last year in Kaila Jackson, the Phoenix haven't regressed at all. Renaissance could have three athletes score in the 100-meter dash alone, while its sprint relays are all expected to contend for a state title.

Oak Park: Although Oak Park took second to Renaissance at the region championships, the Knights could still wind up on top thanks to its dominance in the hurdles and sprint relays. Nonah Waldron, Morgan Roundtree and Carrie VanNoy are aiming to sweep both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Meanwhile, Kylee King has state-championship potential in both the 400 and 800 meter events.

Ann Arbor Pioneer: The Pioneers will look to counter the elite speed of Renaissance and Oak Park with elite endurance in the distance events. Rachel Forsyth leads the distance regime while Maya Rollins looks to add key points in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

She is looking to become a three-time champion in the 100 hurdles and become a two-time champion in the 300 hurdles.

Morgan Roundtree, Oak Park: She became the first athlete in state history to break the 42-second barrier in the 300 hurdles when she ran a 41.62 at the Farmington Invitational this season. However, her state record lasted less than a week as her teammate, Nonah Waldron, broke the record at the league championships.

Rachel Forsyth, Ann Arbor Pioneer: Forsyth has the best time in the state this season for D1 in the 800 (2:10.02), 1600 (4:51.35) and 3200 (10:17.48). Although she's not competing in the 3200 at states, she will likely also run on the state-leading 4x800 team and try to score points in the 4x400.

Abigail Russell, Allen Park: She is the state's most dominant thrower as she returns to state's as the defending champion in the shot put and discus. She leads the state with a mark of 149-feet-4 in discus and 46-feet-7 in shot put.

Milena Chevallier, Farmington Hills Mercy: Her season-best mark in high jump of 5-feet-10 inches makes her tied as the fifth-best athlete in state history in the event. Although she has gone over 5-foot-6 just twice this season, she will be in contention to win it all at states.

Maya Rollins, Ann Arbor Huron: Rollins qualified for states in the 200, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Her time of 13.83 in the 100 hurdles is the second-best in Michigan this season.

Lansing Catholic: Lansing Catholic might be bringing just a handful of girls, but all of them have a chance to be top three in their respective events. From the 400 on up, expect Lansing Catholic to pile on the points with Hannah Pricco leading the way in the 400 and 800.

Hillsdale Academy: Megan Roberts and younger sister Caroline Roberts will have to do their thing in the 400 and 800 while the 4x400 and 4x800 will have to live up to their No. 1 seeds.
