Silverado swim team sweeps meet against Apple Valley and Victor Valley

The Silverado swimming team met a few CIF-Southern Section Division 4 qualifying times in a tri-meet against the Victor Valley and Apple Valley on Thursday afternoon.

In boys action, the Hawks tallied a final score of 86 points, while Apple Valley finished right behind at 72 and Victor Valley at 11.

Silverado's Jeremy Kim posted an automatic qualifying time in the 100 backstroke, while Noah Palleras qualified in the 100 freestyle.

Together, they swam on the 200 freestyle relay with James Gonzalez, and Tagem Woodside, which was also good for another qualifying time at 1:46.35.

In girls action, Silverado also won with 97 points, with Apple Valley finishing with 64 and Victor Valley at 3.

The girls 200 IM relay team of Isabella Gollihar, Andrea Vargas, Ellie Valadez and Evelyn Carrillo posted a CIF-SS consideration time at 2:22.17.

At Phelan, the Diamondbacks improved to 5-3 in league action with a victory over the Scorpions on Thursday afternoon.

Shane Williams led Serrano on the mound by striking out seven batters and allowing three hits over five innings. At the dish, he went 2 for 4 with two RBI, two runs and a stolen base.

JJ Kavanaugh went 2 for 4 with three RBI, three runs and four stolen bases; Angel Guerra went 2 for 2 with a RBI, three runs and a stolen base; Erick Sotelo went 2 for 5 with a RBI and a run; and Shane Gage went 1 for 2 with two RBI, a run and two stolen bases.

For Hesperia, Kaleb Watson went 2 for 4 with a RBI; Nolan Newman Gomez went 2 for 3 with a RBI; and Ty Bonnett went 1 for 4 with two runs and a stolen base.

The Scorpions (3-14, 0-8 MRL) are back in action Tuesday at Burroughs, while the Diamondbacks (6-9, 5-3 MRL) head to Apple Valley.

At Ridgecrest, Geoffrey Rodrigues went 4 for 5 with two RBI and two runs to lead the Sultans past the Burros on Thursday afternoon.

Eric Ruiz went 2 for 4 with a run; Alex Gamez went 2 for 4 with a RBI and two runs; and LJ Borrego went 2 for 4 with a RBI and two runs.

Sultana (10-7, 5-3 MRL) is on the road Monday against Oak Hills.

At Apple Valley, the Sun Devils shutout and handed the Bulldogs their first loss in MRL action on Thursday afternoon.

Beau Lloyd struck out three batters and allowed three hits over six innings to pick up the win, and Ryan Martinez notched the save.

At the plate, Martinez ended 2 for 3 with a run; Lloyd went 1 for 3 with a RBI and a run; Noah Celie went 2 for 2 with a run; and Ethan Cheek went 1 for 3 with two RBI.

For Oak Hills, Aiden Caporale, Damian Garcia, Keith Williams and Tyler Martinez each collected a hit.

The Bulldogs (9-5, 5-1 MRL) host Sultana on Monday, while Apple Valley (11-5-1, 4-4 MRL) is back in action Tuesday at home against Serrano.

At Hesperia, the Eagles handed the Patriots their second loss of the season Thursday afternoon.

Brandon Gill struck out eight batters and allowed one earned run on six hits over seven innings. At the plate, Gill went 3 for 4 with a RBI, three runs and three stolen bases.

Caden Wharton went 2 for 4 with three RBI, and Travis Sorensen went 2 for 4.

Excelsior (8-4, 1-1 CVL) is back in action Tuesday at Riverside Prep, while Hesperia Christian (7-2, 3-1 CVL) hosts Desert Christian.

At Oro Grande, with Hesperia Christian's loss and a victory over the Bears, the Silver Knights took sole possession of first place in the CVL standings Thursday.

Cayden Johnson struck out 11 batters and allowed one hit over five innings to pick up the victory. At the plate, he went 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs.

Eric Logsdon went 2 for 3 with three RBI, a run and a stolen base; Trevor Thompson went 1 for 1 with two RBI; and Cayman Pluma and Gage Leighton both went 1 for 2 with a RBI and a run.

Riverside Prep (12-4-4, 4-0 CVL) is back in action Tuesday at home against Excelsior.

At Phelan, Savannah Vanderpool allowed just one hit and struck out 13 batters to lead the Sultans past the Diamondbacks on Thursday afternoon.

Jordan Mullinax helped lead the way offensively, going 2 for 3 with two RBI, two runs and two stolen bases; Avery Rodriguez went 1 for 2 with a RBI and two runs; and Hope Merrill went 1 for 3 with two RBI and a run.

Sultana (7-12, 2-1 MRL) is back in action Monday at Silverado.

Sophia McCoy paced the offense by going 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBI and a run; Sam Dollar went 2 for 3 with two RBI, two runs and a stolen base; Bethany Morrison went 1 for 2 with a home run, three RBI and two runs; and Hailey Macias went 2 for 2 with four runs and three stolen bases.

Apple Valley (12-5, 2-2 MRL) heads to Burroughs on Tuesday.

At Oak Hills, the Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in MRL action with a victory over the Burros on Thursday afternoon.

Rylie Gresham-Center helped lead the offense by going 3 for 4 with three RBI; Holly Medina went 2 for 4 with two doubles, a RBI and four stolen bases; Marley Fic went 2 for 4 with a stolen base; and Maddie Romo hit a two-run home run.

Oak Hills (11-4) is back in action Tuesday at home against Serrano.

At Oro Grande, Angie Borbon and Marissa Torres each were perfect at the plate as the Knights advanced to 2-2 in Cross Valley League action.

At Helendale, the Eagles got off to a fast start with eight runs in the first inning, followed by 10 in the second on Thursday afternoon.

Juliana Santillanes led the offense for ACE by going 4 for 4 with six RBI, three runs and a stolen base; Danaka Pelayes went 3 for 3 with three RBI and two runs; Aniya Edwards went 3 for 3 with three RBI and two runs; and Araceli Manzo went 1 for 2 with three RBI and two runs.

The Eagles (13-4-1, 6-0 Agape League) are back in action Monday at home against Adelanto.

At Victorville, Elliot Hernandez swept in singles action to help lead the Hawks past the Aztecs.

Silverado also got sweeps from the doubles teams of Joshua Washington and Christian Sauceda (6-2, 6-1, 6-1) and Christian Ortiz and Christopher Sauceda 6-3, 6-1, 6-2.

The Hawks (10-0, 9-0 DSL) are back in action Tuesday afternoon at Victor Valley.

At Oak Hills, the Diamondbacks got sweeps in singles action from Richard Macomber (7-5, 6-3, 6-1) and Tarik Toury (6-3, 6-3, 6-1) to pull off the victory over the Bulldogs.

Serrano is back in action Monday at Hesperia.

The Bulldogs girls squad placed first place in all 16 events, and beat Sultana 122-13 on Wednesday afternoon.

Kayla Pugliese led the way for the girls by taking first place in both the 100 and 200 meter races, and also ran legs on both winning relay teams. Ryan Basnight won the 100 hurdles and the long jump, while Grace Dorado took first in the 800 and 1,600 meter races.

In boys action, the Bulldogs won by a score of 107-27.

Nikolas Blocker won both the 100 and 200 meter races, and also ran a leg on the 4x100 relay team.

Luke Catherwood won both 800 and 1,600 meter races, Brandon Solaita took first in the 300 hurdles race and the triple jump, and Christopher Nora won both throwing events.

For Sultana, LaMason Waller took first in the 400 meter race and ran a leg for the 4x400m relay team.
