MUSKEGON – We’ve got 20 student-athletes from the Muskegon area who put together noteworthy achievements this past week but it's up to the readers of MLive and the Muskegon Chronicle to decide who gets top billing in our Athlete of the Week poll.

Readers will have until 9 a.m. on Friday to cast their vote for the most deserving Muskegon-area athlete in this week's poll and the winner will be announced later that morning.

Below are this week's candidates for the MLive Muskegon Athlete of the Week award, presented in alphabetical order by last name.

The soccer standout for the Lakers registered a hat trick in a 5-0 win over Reeths-Puffer in the Division 2 district championship game. She also added one goal and two assists in an 8-1 win over Fruitport in the district semifinals.

The junior track and field standout for the Vikings won a Division 2 state championship in the 400-meter dash with a second-record time of 48.83 seconds and earned All-State honors in the 200 dash (24.03) with an eighth-place finish and was a member of the 1,600 relay team that took third with a time of 3:25.57.

The boys lacrosse standout for the Sailors scored two goals, including the game-winner score with 12 seconds remaining in the game, and tacked on two assists in a dramatic 13-12 win over West Ottawa in the regional championship game.

The softball standout for the Red Devils had three hits, including a double, from the plate and struck out seven batters from the circle while only allowing one hit in a district semifinal win over Hesperia. She later added a pair of hits in a 22-0 win over Mason County Eastern in the district tile game.

The sophomore track and field standout of the Pirates won a state championship in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches and later added a third-place finish in the 100 dash (12.53), She was also the anchor leg of the 400 relay team (50.78) that finish third overall and the 800 relay team that finish seventh overall (1:49.32).

The sophomore track and field standout helped the Pirates capture their second straight Division 3 state championships on Saturday, winning the 3,200 run with a time of 10:57.99 and adding a runner-up finish in the 1,600 run (4:58.86), a third-place finish in the 800 run (2:16.22) and was a member of the 3,200 relay team that finished fourth overall with a time of 9:35.92.

The senior standout for the Norse girls soccer team suffered a pair of broken bones in her left arm during a district semifinal win over Ravenna on Tuesday but gutted through the severe injury and a heavy cast to net the game-winning goal over Western Michigan Christian in the district championship on Thursday in a 1-0 win her squad.

The senior field event standout for the Pirates won a state championship in the discus at the Division 3 state finals with a toss of 174 feet, 3 inches.

The junior catcher for the Norse baseball team got hot at the plate over the weekend with eight RBI, including a grand slam, two triples and three runs scored in his team's 17-5 win over Montague in the Division 3 district championship game.

The junior track and field standout for the Buccaneers won a state championship in the 3,200 run with a time of 9:04.68 at the Division 1 state finals and kicked off the day by anchoring the 3,200 relay team to a school-record time of 7:46.75 in a second-place finish.

The girls soccer standout for the Wildcats recorded a hat trick in her team's 6-0 win over Manistee in the Division 3 district semifinals.

The softball standout for the Bulldogs went 3-for-3 from the plate, including a home run and a triple, to go along with three RBI and three runs scored in a 15-0 win over Montague in the district semifinals and added two hits and two runs scored in a narrow 4-1 win over Kent City in the district championship game.

The sophomore track and field standout for the Eagles won a state championship in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 10 inches at the Division 4 state finals meet. The finish was the best mark across the state in any division this past weekend and is tied for the season-high across Michigan. Richards also became the first male athlete for the Eagles to win a track state championship.

The baseball standout for the Sailors recorded four RBI, including a double, in a 15-0 win over Muskegon in the district semifinals and added three RBI on three hits in an 11-0 win over Kenowa Hills in the district title game.

The baseball standout for the Lakers registered 12 strikeouts and allowed just two hits and two walks from the mound in a 5-1 win over Oakridge in the district semifinals and added three hits and two RBI in his team's 10-4 win over rival Fruitport in the district championship game on Saturday.

The sophomore track and field standout for the Vikings set a new school record in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 7 inches to finish runner-up at the Division 2 state finals.

The sophomore track and field standout for the Warriors earned All-State honors in three events at the Division 4 state finals with a third-place finish in the 1,600 run (5:13.63), a second-place finish in the 3,200 run (11:20.06) and was a member of the 3,200 relay team that finished sixth overall with a time of 10:12.05.

---

The softball standout for the Eagles registered two hits and one RBI in a 5-3 win over Grant in the district semifinals and exploded for six RBI, including a home run, a double and a single, in a 26-4 win over Whitehall in the district finals.

The junior track and field standout for the Norsemen won a pair of state championships over the weekend and added All-State honors in an additional event during the Division 3 state finals. Wiegers won the 200 dash with a time of 21.93 seconds and added another state title in the 400 dash with a time of 49.49 seconds and anchored the 800 relay that finished seventh with a time of 1:32.44.
